Head & Neck Cancer Care in Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad | Niraaya Hospital

A cancer diagnosis changes everything. But in head and neck cancers, the word "early" changes the outcome profoundly. Caught at Stage 1 or 2, many head and neck cancers are highly curable - with surgery alone or combined with radiation, patients go on to live full, healthy lives. Missed until Stage 3 or 4, the same cancers become far more challenging to treat and carry significantly reduced survival. At Niraaya Hospital, Kudasan, Gandhinagar, Dr. Khushali

Dr. Khushali Patel, Head-Neck Surgeon at Niraaya Hospital

Khushali Patel (MBBS, MS ENT, Head-Neck Surgeon) is committed to the early detection, prompt diagnosis, and surgical management of head and neck cancers. India has one of the highest global burdens of head and neck cancers - particularly oral cancers linked to tobacco and pan masala use - making specialist care in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad critical.

This page explains the cancers we manage, the warning signs you should never ignore, and the diagnostic and surgical pathways available at Niraaya Hospital.

  • Cancer Biopsy - tissue diagnosis under local or general anaesthesia (oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, neck nodes)
  • Wide Local Excision - surgical removal of oral or oropharyngeal tumours with clear margins
  • Microlaryngeal Surgery - endoscopic resection of early vocal cord cancer (CO2 laser)
  • Thyroidectomy - for differentiated and medullary thyroid cancers
  • Neck Dissection - selective, modified radical, or radical, depending on extent of nodal disease
  • Salivary Gland Surgery - parotidectomy or submandibular gland excision for salivary gland tumours
  • Panendoscopy - combined examination of the upper aerodigestive tract under general anaesthesia for staging and biopsy

Oral Cavity Cancer at Niraaya Hospital

Oral Cavity Cancer

Cancer of the oral cavity includes malignancies of the lips, tongue (anterior two-thirds), gums (gingiva), floor of the mouth, inner cheeks (buccal mucosa), hard palate, and retromolar trigone. India accounts for a disproportionately high percentage of global oral cancers - primarily driven by tobacco chewing, pan masala, gutkha, cigarette smoking, and alcohol use.

Oral cancers typically begin as a non-healing ulcer, a white patch (leukoplakia), a red patch (erythroplakia), or a lump that persists for more than 2-3 weeks. A biopsy provides the definitive diagnosis. Early-stage oral cancers are managed with wide local surgical excision - removing the tumour with a clear margin of normal tissue around it. Advanced cancers require combined surgery (including jaw and neck), radiation, and sometimes chemotherapy, in a multi-disciplinary setting.

Prevention: If you use tobacco in any form - smoked or smokeless - annual oral cancer screening is strongly recommended. Dr. Patel offers clinical oral cancer screening at Niraaya Hospital, Gandhinagar.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The earliest signs of oral cancer include a non-healing ulcer or sore in the mouth lasting more than 2-3 weeks, a white (leukoplakia) or red (erythroplakia) patch on the tongue, gums, or inner cheek, a lump or hardening inside the mouth, and difficulty opening the mouth fully. Pain is often absent in early stages - making regular ENT check-ups essential for tobacco users in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.
